Gunsmoke � the longest prime time U.S western series

The largest running TV and radio western series that caught the highest place in the heart of western lovers is the Gunsmoke. The name refers to the series that contains a huge interesting storylines, action, tragedy etc. the director and the writer of this record creating series was Norman MacDonnell and John Meston. The story was taken place around Dodge City, Kansas during the resolution of West America.

At first the radio version was started and it ran from 1952 to 1961. The popular writer John Dunning said that it will be the most popular and longest lasting series. Then they decided to film it and make a TV series of this version. The step was taken in 1955. And the TV series ran till the end of 2975 and created a record to stay in TV for 20 years. In 2009 the American animated TV show The Simpsons also completed in 21 seasons. But the Gunsmoke was the last western series that last so long and the total numbers of view episodes were 635 which are greater than The Simpsons.

William S. Paley who was the chairman of CBS network during the time 1940 was a madly fan of The Adventures of Philip Marlowe. He told his chip of programming Mr. Hubell Robinson to make a hardboiled western series on Philip Marlowe of the Old West. Then Mr. hubell told Harry Ackerman who was the West Coast CBS Vice-President and also creator of Philip Marlowe Series, to develop a western radio series on the Old West. He started working and created an audition on this and the director liked the audition and told him to proceed.

The television version of this series was started in September 10, 1955 to March 31, 1975 on CBS network. It was the long lasting TV series till 2010. James Arness played the monitoring role as Marshal Matt Dillon on recommendation of John WayneDennis. He played the same role in all 20 seasons. It was also a record. Dr. Galen "Doc" Adams was played by Milburn Stone. The roll of Miss Kitty Russell was played by Amanda Blake. MacDonnell became the producer and Meston was given the post of head writer. They started to continue the series with full enthusiasm.
